Moving Right Along

Today was another great day of progress for our little man.  Today was the first full day of learning how to eat.  This is gonna be a slow process which usually is according to the nurses and doctors.

The battle is teaching him to breath, suck and swallow at the same time.  Something that comes natural to a newborn but is quickly forgotten if not put to practice right away.  Trent is eating every three hours.  He does good for the first few minutes and then gets cranky and/or sleepy.  We get him to eat as much as he will through bottle and the rest he gets through a feeding tube inserted in his nose.  Holly is doing great being patient and working with Trent with the help of some feeding specialists.  He loves to be held which doesn't help his feeding.  I think he could sleep for hours as long as he's being held.

They moved Trent to a new room today.  He is still in CVICU but is no longer considered one of the most serious cases at the hospital.  One doctor said he is one step closer to being out the door.  What a day that will be.  He also had several mores lines and tubes removed today which has made him much more comfortable.  Dr. Peeler, the surgeon come in this morning and said he thought Trent was moving way ahead of schedule.  Talk about comforting words.

As I sit here pecking away typing this blog, I look up every few seconds and watch Trent in his bed, sleeping away.  Resting peacefully, not sure and not remembering what all he has been through.  Born one day and 36 hours having open heart surgery.  I remember watching his heart beat as he lay in bed swollen twice his normal size with his chest wide open.  Now, I know we are blessed to have a surgeon ranked in the top five in the US right here in Charlotte with the help of the best doctors and nurses around.  But watching all this take place proves to me even more that there is a higher power in charge, in control, someone greater than any human being, any doctor that ever lived.  My Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is performing a miracle right before our eyes.  How do I thank someone who gave up his one and only son to die for my sins, our sins, yet He saves mine.

John 3:16, 20
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God."

Keeping the faith is part of our thanks to HIM-the ONE in charge. The birth of a child is a miracle in itself, but Trent is one with sugar on top. Very happy to hear that things are going well. Will continue to pray for Trent and family....Wes
