Tomorrow will be a bittersweet day for Trent and our family. Trent will undergo his third, and final planned open heart surgery. While this will be a huge hurdle and a tough time for our family, we will be glad to have it behind him, and us. Please wear your Team Trent shirts in honor of our little heart hero!!!
This surgery, called the Fontan Procedure, will allow Trent's venous blood to flow passively into his lungs, and the oxygenated blood to be pumped out to the body through his right ventricle. When it's all said and done his O2 sats should reside in the 90's. Woooohooo!!
We went for his pre-op today. He had an EKG, met with the surgical team, and anesthesia, had a chest X-ray, and lab work drawn. We learned a lot about what to expect tomorrow. When we arrive for surgery, scheduled for 1:00pm, Trent should get some Versed, a relaxation medication, and then the anesthesia team will take him back to the OR. His surgery will last 3-5 hours. They hope to have him off the ventilator when he comes out of surgery and back to his room. He will be in the CVICU for a few days, and then hopefully be moved to progressive care for the rest of his stay. They told us to plan to stay for at least a couple weeks.
We would love to have visitors from family and close friends while there. However, it will be several days before Trent is allowed to have any visits. Please check with us if you plan to visit to be sure it is a good time.
Recently we have had so many kind people praying for Trent. Even people we do not know have called us to pray with us. We have heard of many adding him to prayer chains and church prayer lists. We are very thankful to have so many prayers going up on his behalf. Also, we are so very thankful for all the texts, calls, gifts, sweet treats, kind words, those helping with Braxton, and the list goes on and on. AND surgery is not even here yet. We feel very loved and cared for. Words cannot express our gratefulness.
We will try and keep the blog up to date as we know more tomorrow and the coming days. We'll try to return calls and texts as time allows. But it may be difficult to do so very timely. We truly appreciate you all very much.
Heart hugs,
Wayne, Holly, Braxton and Trent
