Trent wowed the doctors and nurses again today. He woke up at 7:30 this morning in good spirits. His nurse for the day came in and said today was the day to get Trent up and moving a little to help clear his lungs of some of the fluid. There is a fear of pneumonia setting in if the fluid lingers too long. Trent and I sat in the chair for 4 hours this morning watching Cars and Monster's University. I think we now know those movies by heart.
He moved back to the bed to get some of his lines removed. His arterial line (in his right wrist) was removed. Also 2 of his 3 chest tubes were changed to bulbs meaning the chest tubes are still there but he now has a little more freedom since they are not connected to a box in the floor. He is not completely free of tubes and lines but he doesn't have near as many as he had early yesterday. While his lines were being removed and chest tubes being adjusted, Trent ate almost a whole grilled cheese sandwich while drinking some good ole sweet tea.
After getting his belly full, Trent fell asleep and got him some well deserved sleep. While he was sleeping we found out Trent was doing so well that they were moving him out of CVICU and up to Progressive Care. Wow, we never thought he would be moving so fast. As his parents, it is a little scary moving from the CVICU where he had his own nurse in his room 24/7 to another floor where that luxury is gone. Don't misunderstand me, the nurses here on the 8th floor are great but we have gotten spoiled with the one-on-one care.
Trent got tired rather quickly and fell asleep after getting his pain meds. Since waking from his nap, Trent has had a rough night. He has started coughing which causes him a lot of pain in his chest and throat. He has to cough to help get the fluid out but it is extremely painful for him. After a lot of coughing and crying, we noticed a stain in his bed. After the nurse checked it out, she realized one of Trent's chest tubes was leaking. This began a 30-45 minute ordeal trying to get it fixed. It upset Trent to the point that his O2 level dropped to 26% at one time. The nurses could not fix the site completely due to Trent's pain so they temporarily repaired it, changed his sheets, gave him some more meds and left him alone. He is sleeping now and hopefully continues to rest well through the night. The plan is to take a look at the site periodically through the night and check it again in the morning. So far, we do not see anymore leaks.
As always, thank everyone so much for the texts, calls, and most importantly, prayers. There is no doubt, the power of prayer is evident throughout Trent's life. Continue to lift him up as he continues to recover.
Heart Hugs,
Wayne, Holly, Braxton, and Trent

While in Progressive Care, Trent has already walked a lap around the floor and blew some bubbles to help open up his lungs. Trent finally got to see his big brother Braxton (which both thoroughly enjoyed) who visited with Grandmama and Granddaddy. They played in the bed together and listened to music on their favorite Pandora station, "Hair Bands". Uncle Ricky visited and the first thing Trent asked was "Where's your truck at".
