Baby Trent is doing pretty well at home. I'm not sure if we mentioned it before or not, but Trent has had some issues with vomiting since a couple days after surgery. After talking with the cardiologists several times they allowed us to go home on Monday with the hopes that the vomiting would taper off.
It since has not tapered off...and at one point it was worse than in the hospital. We ended up having to take him back in to see the surgeon on Friday. They really have no idea what is causing the vomiting, but they assure us that it is not anything major at this point. He is being treated for reflux. However, his symptoms are not consistent with reflux. We are trying some reflux meds over the weekend and will follow up with the cardiologist on Monday if he is no better. Aside from this issue, Trent seems to be feeling pretty good.
His eating is slowly picking up...it is almost back up to where it was before surgery. He is starting to laugh and play a lot more. We can tell that he still has some pain, and we are still giving pain meds around the clock at this point. We want to stay on top of his pain. The pic above is his daily meds...some of which he gets up to six times a day. All in all he takes approximately 17 doses of medicine a day. Hopefully, as he grows and gets a little stronger, most of these meds will be eliminated.
We are looking forward to getting him back to his "norm". The docs have told us that after his recovery time, that we should start getting him out a little more, and treating him like a normal baby. Of course, with it getting into the cold and flu season we still have to be pretty cautious since his immune system is not where a normal 5 month old's immune system would be. It's tough as a parent to treat him like a normal baby. I mean the little guy has been through so much...I just want to put him in a bubble and protect him from everything. We will slowly, eventually, get there though. God has chosen to protect him from sickness thus far. We just have to continue to trust Him. We've had the mindset all along that no matter the outcomes for Trent, we know he's in God's hands. We just have to remind ourselves of this day in and day out.
As always, thanks for the continued prayers and support. We hope that we never take them for granted.
