Home Sweet Home

It's hard to believe that round two of Trent's journey is over.  We were released from the hospital around 2:30 today.  The doctors and nurses said Trent is doing really well and there was nothing left to accomplish with this hospital visit that couldn't be accomplished at home.
Trent is still vomiting occasionally due to a sore throat and a temper when he gets mad.  The doctors assured us that he is not sick and that his lungs and chest look great.  I guess any child that goes through what he has gone through has to have a temper.  He is still sore where his incision is and where the chest tube was which he takes pain medicine for.  Otherwise, he is good.  He's a tough little boy.

Braxton is so excited to have Trent back home.  Hopefully he is excited to have mom and dad home to.  He is so awesome with Trent.  He is a super brother.  Trent will soon realize how blessed he is to have Braxton, just as we all are.

We go home with several added medicines although Trent should be off of all but one within a few weeks.  No more weighing Trent everyday or keeping track of his oxygen levels.  We can put away the log book of when and how much Trent eats each day and how many diapers was changed each day and so on.  We have kept it since Trent come home from the first surgery.  Not that we minded keeping it but not having to means improvement and accomplishment.  We have several follow up doctor visits with the surgeon, cardiologist and so on already scheduled for the next couple months to make sure Trent continues to do well .

It is amazing to think back over the last 5 plus months of Trent's life.  He is not yet 6 months old and already been through two open heart surgeries.  We hear it from every nurse and doctor that sees him.  They say, "He doesn't look like a cardiac baby" or "Wow he looks good to be a cardiac baby.  Most babies with HLHS don't look this good or do near as good as Trent."  We have heard it so many times.  I'm not sure why God chose to bless us in all the ways He has.  I mean, yeah it has been tough, very tough, but the outcome thus far has been nothing short of spectacular considering the severity of Trent's condition.  Let me re-phrase that, nothing short of a miracle.  Every time I look at my son, I know there is a God, a God that loves us and a God that has saved my son's life.  There is a much higher power than me or any doctor in control.  We ask ourselves sometimes; why has God chose to bless us and Trent in this way?  I don't know, we may never know.  I do know that God has something big planned for Trent.  He continues to amaze us. I pray that we never take that for granted, that we always remember how truly amazing all this is.

Our lives are gonna change a little now that we have surpassed the next hurdle.  We will soon have a little more freedom with Trent.  We obviously still have to be smart and take it easy for six weeks or so, especially heading into the fall which means cold and flu season.

We can never thank you all enough for the prayers and encouragement you give us.  Prayer has truly made a difference in Trent's life and ours as well.  I want to brag on the nurses and doctors at Levine Children's Hospital and the Sanger Heart and Vascular Institute as well.  They have been like angels sent by God to take care of us and Trent, as well as every other family that walks through their doors.  They are a group of people who do what they do because they want to make a difference in people's lives.  They have truly made a difference in ours.  Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, thank you.

With big love for our little heart,
Wayne, Holly and Braxton

Yay! So excited to hear that you are home!! It is wonderful!!! I read your post and it reminds me so much of how Chuck and I feel. I would love to get together sometime and let the boys meet each other...they sure have something very special in common. I know right now is not the best time as he continues to heal from his surgery. We will continue to pray for blessings for Trent and your family. Yes a miracle these sweet boys sure are.
Take Care,
Chuck and Casey Clark
