It's Hard to Believe the Day is Here

Well, today is the day. Trent will be having his Glenn Operation (stage 2) in just a few moments. We knew the day would come, but it's hard to believe that it's already at hand. We arrived here around 5:30am...they just took Trent back a few moments ago.
He was all smiles as the anesthesia team oohed and ahhed over him. One of them made the comment that he could be the Gerber Baby. Another said, "he is the cutest thing I've ever seen." Of course, he has no idea what he is about to undergo. Surgery should go into the early afternoon and his stay here will be 1-2 weeks.

Trent slept with Mama and Daddy last night. We just couldn't take our hands off him last night and this morning. He woke up with us at 3:30am and was all wide eyed...and hungry (of course). Since he could not have anything to eat before his surgery, Daddy gave him some pedialyte to hold him over. He is such a good baby. He just played and talked most of the way here...until he fell asleep with his blankie and his paci.

We've been on an emotional roller coaster the last few days. Trent's normal cough turned into a croupy cough after his heart cath last week. After back and forth with pediatrician and the cardiologists over the weekend and yesterday, they decided to go through with it as scheduled. We want to make sure we are upfront about everything going on with him...although we are anxious to get through this next stage.

We were recently reminded that it's tough to trust God's will when it comes to your children. As parents, we want to step in and be in control with our children. I do not claim to know what God has in store for Trent...but I know it has to be big things. He is certainly a tough little cookie. It is amazing to see what all he has gone through yet he keeps that sweet little smile through it all. Any person who has oxygen saturations in the low to mid 70's has to be worn out. But you would never know it by looking at this little guy. He is just as big and happy as any healthy baby.

As we sit in the waiting area, we just noticed that Trent has arrived in the operating room now. We will keep you all posted on how it goes. Again, many thanks for praying!

With big love for our little heart -

Wayne and Holly
