2 Corinthians 12:9

My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness. 2 Corinthians 12:9

It has been a good little while since we sent out an update on Trent. Not much has been happening with him medically. He continues to do really well...meaning he is growing and acting just like a normal baby/toddler. Of course he's still Mama's baby even though he is getting so big and independent. He began walking a couple of months ago and is a real pro at it now. He is talking up a storm and trying to mimic what we say quite regularly. We love to hear him say "bye ya'll" and "shut the door". I know we are partial, but he really is a sweet kid. He is so easy going and laid back. He doesn't really get excited about much at all. He is almost always smiling and playing. Some of his favorite things to do are playing outside and riding the lawn mower with his daddy. In the mornings he likes to run to the kitchen window and pull up the blinds to watch Daddy leave for work.

It's hard to believe that it's been almost a year since Trent had his Glenn Operation (the second surgery in his 3 step palliation). Below is a pic from September 7, 2011.

On Friday (the one year mark) we will be heading back up to Levine that morning for Trent to have an Echocardiogram. This is a sonogram of his heart that will tell the doctors how well his heart is functioning. He had one of these tests before he left the hospital after his Glenn last September. At the time of that last echo it was showing that he had slightly decreased heart function. He was put on a medication that is supposed to help with his heart function. We are hoping that Friday we will find out that his heart function has improved and he can be taken off the medication. It doesn't sound like this will be a very invasive test. He will go in that morning and be heavily sedated so that he is sort of out of it (they want him to be very still). Then they will do the sonogram of his heart while he is sedated. After he has had a little time to recover from the sedation, we will go in and have a regular visit with the cardiologist. We should know the outcome of the test right away.

As always, we are so thankful that Trent has done so well. He really is a rare case. Most babies do not do as well as he has. We are equally thankful for all of you who have been so supportive and loving to him and us these last 17+ months. We know that life with HLHS will never be "easy" or comfortable. However, we have realized that the hard things in life are what makes us grow the most. We thank God daily for Trent and try not to take a moment with him for granted. We covet your prayers and thoughts this Friday. We will try and make a post to let everyone know how the test goes.

 Heart hugs,

Wayne, Holly, Braxton, and Trent
