It has been a good while since the last update. Trent is doing great. He is growing and developing his little personality. There are many things to write about, so here goes...
Shortly after Trent turned 11 months old, he began crawling...or doing this funky crawl/scoot thing. He would crawl like normal with one leg, but then scoot on the other cheek. He has since learned to crawl like a normal child, but when he wants to get somewhere fast he does the scoot thing. It is so funny. We had to video it. That will be good blackmail when he brings home his first girlfriend. He is now beginning to pull up and try to take a few steps here and there.
Look out world, Trent is a graduate!! The cardiology group had their first annual CHAMP graduation program. CHAMP stands for Complex Congenital Heart At-Home Monitoring Program. This was a banquet that honored the children and their families who had gone through the first two stages of surgery and had completed the at-home monitoring program with the cardiology group. We had a great time hanging out with the cardiologists and getting to know them a little better. Trent received a little graduation cap, a CHAMP t-shirt, and a certificate of graduation. He's always been our little CHAMP!
Also, on March 20th, Trent went for a six month appointment with the cardiologist. He thinks Trent is doing very well. Dr. Herlong mentioned that if Trent keeps growing like he is that surgery #3 may come around sooner that we origianlly thought. We go back in September for a sedated echocardiogram. This is a test that checks the heart function to be sure that it's doing what it should be doing. The last one that Trent had, after his second surgery, showed slightly reduced heart function. He is currently on medication for that. We are hoping that the next echo shows that his heart is functioning great, so that he can go off of the meds.
Now, for the BIG day...Trent turned 1 on March 22. WOW! It's so hard to beleive that he's 1 already. Wayne and I talked about how we remember the day he was born like it was yesterday. It is so amazing to look back on the photos and then to see how far he has come in just one year. As you have all read before, we do not know why God has allowed Trent to do so well, but we are so very thankful that He has. For Trent's birthday, he got a cake all to himself. He completely demolished it. It was so cute!!
April 11th marked one year since we brought Trent home from the hospital. Another WOW! It has been nothing short of amazing watching him grow and do so well. We try to take nothing for granted, especially when it comes to our boys. Things that used to be really important, suddenly take a backseat now. Going through the last year has definitely taught us about priorities.
Earlier this month, Trent was able to take his first trip to the beach. Although, it was much too cold to enjoy the water, he did enjoy eating several handfuls of sand.
On the daily, Trent enjoys playing with his big brother, Braxton. He has learned his name and calls it (something sounding like Bratty) often. He also loves to re-organize the cabinets, the fridge, and Mommy's bathroom drawers. Crawling around in the grass outside has become one of his new loves. He kind of sits with his legs raised in the air at first, like he doesn't want the grass to touch them. Then, he takes off crawling in the grass and loves it. He is just a fun baby...all smiles and fun to be around.
As always, thank you all for the continued support and prayers. Trent's heart will never be whole, but we know with lots of prayers and God on our side that his love and his life can be whole.
Heart hugs,
Wayne, Holly, Braxton and Trent
