The Adventures of Trent

Trent has had many adventures since the last time we blogged...so this one is going to be a long one. We took him on his first overnight trip (well except for hospital stays) in early December. We stayed at a b&b in Boone, NC. The boys had a blast riding the golf cart and swinging on the rope swing, as well as hanging out around the beautiful property. The property owners were the nicest folks ever. They just loved our boys and made us feel right at home. Trent loved trying to catch the fish in their indoor goldfish pond.

Also, in December, we were able to meet up with our special heart buddies. Casey and Chuck have Murphy www.heartofteammurphy.com and the Kristan and Michael will have Katherine babykatherinemckelvey.blogspot.com at the end of this month. Both of these sweet babies also have HLHS, like Trent. Please be in prayer that Mr. Murphy continues to do well during this respiratory season and that Ms. Katherine enters the world strong and tough. We really love both of these families and thank God for such sweet people to share baby heart stories with.

Yet more exciting news from December. There are many folks who prayed and continue to pray for Trent and our family. We took Trent to visit two churches in particular who showed their support in so many ways. First we visited Sharon Church in Charlotte. Most of these kind folks do not even know Trent or us. But they prayed for Trent continually through his surgeries. They visited us in the hospital. They sent cards and generous gifts. They called. They text. We were blown away by the outpouring of such kindness by people we did not even know. We also visited Rawlinson Road in Rock Hill. This was our home church and most know us. They were amazed at how well Trent is doing. We are also grateful for all they did before, during and since Trent's surgeries.

Moving right along...This past Christmas season was great. Trent's first Christmas was filled with many fun family times. Wayne and I both have large families and we got together with both sides to celebrate. However, we really did not get caught up in all the stresses of the season this time. Having been through all that we had with Trent the past year has really caused us to see things in a different light. It definitely helps to put things in perspective, for sure. I think our favorite time was when we baked a cake and sang Happy Birthday to Jesus.

2011 was a bittersweet year. It was really great welcoming our newest addition and watching him and his little personality grow. It was equally painful to watch him have to go through two major open heart surgeries, countless tests, numerous doctors visits, several vaccinations, and many little illnesses. Although we of course hate to watch him suffer through all of this, we know that God has purposed his little life to His glory. Again, we do not know why God allowed Trent to be born with HLHS, but we know He can use it for the glory of His kingdom. His little life is already a testimony to the power of the One and Only. Trent just takes all that has been done to him and just keeps right on smiling. He is my little hero. We pray that 2012 continues to see Trent grow stronger and as healthy as he can be.

All in all, for his condition, Trent is doing great. However, he has had a couple of small illnesses to mention as of late. About a month ago, Trent came down with RSV. If you do not know, this can be very serious for babies who have compromised immune systems, lung or heart issues. Thankfully, Trent has been receiving RSV vaccinations for several months and it did not get really bad. We did have to take him back in today and the doctor says that it could be RSV again. We are going to treat it and see where it goes. Please be in prayer that these treatments work so that Trent can be back to his normal self and be back on track to growing into the little guy God wants him to be.

As always, we are so very thankful to everyone who reads this blog and prays for Trent. We know prayer is powerful.

With love that's whole...for a heart that's not,

Wayne, Holly, Braxton and Trent

Hi Holly and Wayne: We all keep Baby Trent in our prayers. He's never far from our thoughts. We love your family and the little fellows. One day Jesus will explain the 'Why?' to us and we'll say, "Ahhhh, NOW I understand." Until then, we'll trust Him and praise Him as I know you folks do. Blessings.
