Getting All Ready

Well, it's hard to believe it's almost time for round two. Trent is now five months old. We had an appointment with the cardiologist last week and he said "it's time". That was a whirlwind day...within an hour we had seen the doctor, seen the cath specialist, scheduled his heart cath as well as his Glenn Operation (stage two of the three part palliation). We are at Levine this morning getting ready for Trent's heart cath.
It is standard protocol to have one before the surgery. They will go in today and take pictures of Trent's heart to be sure the first surgery is still in place as it should be so that there will be no surprises when they go in to do his Glenn Operation next week. Please say a little prayer for him around 7:30am.

Trent continues to do well. The doctors and nurses are all amazed at how big he is to be a heart baby. They say "heart babies just do not get this big". He is so big that you can barely see the scar on his chest. He looks and acts so healthy that it makes it hard to believe that his heart is still sick. It's difficult to bring in our "healthy" baby boy to the hospital to get poked and prodded by all these strangers. We just have to keep reminding ourselves that all these surgeries, tests, blood draws, etc. are part of him getting closer to living a relatively normal life. Of course, Wayne and I know that it is for the best. However, Trent looks to us for comfort...to make everything alright...in his eyes I wonder if he thinks, "Mommy, why are letting them hurt me?" He will understand it one day.

We will likely be staying overnight tonight. Trent's nurse practitioner told us that pretty much all left hypoplasts stay overnight after a heart cath because their oxygen levels just do not like to stabilize after being put under general anesthesia.

Thank you all for continuing to lift Trent and us up in prayer. We cannot express how thankful we are to have so much support from our friends, family, co-workers, workplaces, church families, other churches, Bible study groups, and just plain strangers. It is still so amazing to us...we feel so unworthy of the flood of love, support, and prayers that we've experienced over the last few months.

Stay tuned, we will try and update with the results of the cath later today.

Big love for a small heart.

Wayne and Holly
