Trent turned 3 years old on Saturday. We cannot believe that three years have passed already since we welcomed him into the world. He is doing really well and has enjoyed getting to play outside the last few days since it's been warm. Trent now goes to a "play school" three days a week where he is learning his letters, colors, shapes and how to share (the big test...haha). He has also been working hard at potty training and we think he finally has it figured out. He enjoys hanging out with his big brother, and close family and friends. And he still loves a truck and a tractor. We have ourselves a little country boy!
As I type I think about just three years ago at this time we walked into the CVICU at Levine and saw our baby boy just fresh out of his first open heart surgery....chest still a gap and connected to a room full of machines, with tubes coming from almost every opening on his tiny body. We were so scared. However, in the days and weeks to come Trent would prove how brave and strong he was. And God would prove how powerful faithful prayers could be.
On this coming Thursday, we will have an appointment with the cardiologist and hopefully have a plan for his third and final planned surgery (the Fontan). That will be a sort of bittersweet appointment. Trent gets winded easily and tired quicker than the average kid. But at the same time he is so up beat and playful. It will be difficult to see a sweet playful child, (seemingly) normal go into that OR and come out with all the tubes, IVs and machines again. In the end, he will have completed stage 3 of the 3 stage palliation to hopefully allow his heart to grow up with him. He tells us that Dr. Herlong looks after his special heart and that Dr. Peeler fixes his special heart so that he can run.
We will hopefully get to post an update soon after his appointment Thursday to inform you all of the plan. In the meantime, please pray for wisdom for the doctors and health and strength for our little brave man.
Heart hugs,
Wayne, Holly, Braxton and Trent.
