Trent had an appointment with the cardiologist yesterday. They said Trent is still doing really good. He continues to gain plenty of weight each day. His oxygen levels are hanging out around 75% which is within range...just a little on the low end of the range...but they don't seem to be too concerned with that.
Shortly after July 4th Trent will go in for a heart cath. This will check the blood flow through his heart. He will more than likely have to stay overnight at the hospital as the doctors expect him to have some low oxygen levels due to the tests. After the tests, the doctors will schedule Trent's second surgery 2-6 weeks later.
The second surgery in the series is called the Bi-Directional Glenn Operation. At this stage the surgery will direct half of his deoxygenated blood (from the upper part of the body) directly to his lungs without having to go through the single ventricle he was born with. If you remember about his condition...HLHS is where someone has a single (right) ventricle heart. A normal heart has both a left and a right ventricle.
We have learned so much about what the heart and body can go through and continue to survive and even do well. It has been amazing to see Trent's little body be put through so much distress. And he has come through it and continues to do so well. We continue to thank God for allowing Trent to do so well and for carrying us through thus far.
Again, thanks to you all for your continued prayers and support. It really means so much.
Whole lotta love for Half a heart...
